How To Manage All of Your Prepper and Survival Books
SHTF Gear Links
Most of you out there have an extensive library of Survival Books and Prepper eBooks or regular books.
For those of you that have regular Survival Books think about this for a second, if you had to go quickly which books would you want to leave behind out of lack of space or how well protected are your books from weather and age?
Well a solution to all of this is the amazing new technology of eBook readers. Don’t get me wrong I use to be a hardcore “real” book person.
I like the feeling of a real book, the smell and the ability to flip through the pages. All that put aside I started thinking about the practicality of my Survival Books and Survival Guides.
I asked myself which ones I would be ok with leaving behind in a SHTF situation. The only answer I could come up with was none of them.
Then I got a eBook reader for my birthday and it dawned on me…..get the eBook of all the best manuals and survival guides and load them onto my eBook reader.
I could get roughly 3500 books on my eBook reader! If I somehow run out of space and acquire more than 3500 books I just need to get a new card and Tah dah I’ve just expanded my library potential to well over 10k.
For another great free survival book check out my post on the FREE LDS Preparedness Manual.
Not only can you get many more Survival Guides and Survival Books in your library but they all become portable.
The eBook readers out there require very little power especially compared to a solar charged laptop (I could probably get 2-3 hours max with a solar charged laptop) where as my nook I only need to charge once a week with very little power and I get to read it every day for 3 hours minimum.
With this kind of technology the options are limitless. You might just want to load a few emergency books about stuff you are not familiar with onto the eBook reader.
Or you may want to load an entire collection of Survival Books and Military Manuals to have on hand if SHTF.
I found that having the option to have more than I could possibly read was a nice option to have. Not only is it great for emergency survival books and what not but it’s also great for just plain entertainment in survival situations.
Load a few fictional books on there and bam now you have a great form of entertainment via reading a great book to everyone (or yourself) around a campfire.
For those of you that already have survival pdf’s or survival prep eBooks I suggest getting a nook. The nook is fully compatible with pdf’s and you won’t have to spend the time converting them over to another format.
This little gadget has changed how I look at books and information. I am no longer limited to space on my book shelves or buying sheet protectors in bulk (a cheap way to water proof my best pages).
I’m not saying that this is an end all answer to your survival in a situation but it’s a good way to feel confident that you have all the knowledge that you need with you. Let’s face it we all can’t be master survivalist and know every technique by heart, but we can have the next best thing and have all the info at our finger tips.
That being said there is no substitution to having a personal knowledge of survival and being able to do so without gadgets but like I said this is a great way to tip the scales in your favor.
I know there’s a lot of what ifs when it comes to electronic gadgets and survival.
What if…it gets wet?
What if….there’s an EMP BLAST?
What if….there’s no electricity?
Well I agree with what ifers to a point, I mean it’s always a good idea to question everything and be prepared for anything. But at a point it becomes impossible.
Here is a list of some great stuff to help minimize the what ifs
Element Proofing. Now here is something I would consider using for all of my electronics and guns (basically anything I don’t want to get water, dust, humidity or anything else on) they are these really great bags by LOKSAK. They are completely sealed out re-sealable bags. They feature a hermetical seal and trust me nothings getting in.
They are clear plastic bags that come in a ton of different sizes from very small to ones that comfortable fit a full size AR-15. The great part about them being clear plastic is that you don’t even need to take you nook out of it to work it. You can just keep it in the safety of the bag and use it with no problems. Even if you need to take it out these bags can be resealed over and over again with no loss.
Charging. As I said earlier these eBook Readers are crazy good at battery life. But if you are really worried about charging and keeping it charged you can either use a hand crank (yes they use that little power) or invest in a little electronics solar charger.
EMP Storm. I have not tested these out so I can’t say if they really work or not but if you are really worried about an EMP Blast or Solar Storm then you should get these nifty little Faraday Cage Anti-Static Bags made by 3M.
With this kept in mind you should never be without your survival books!
