Survival Food Storage is a large subject with many thoughts on Food Preservation. When you start thinking about surviving in a situation of semi chaos and unrest you might forget about simple things like refrigeration and Food Preservation. I know a lot of you have your victory gardens or Urban Survival Garedns but have you thought about what would happen to all of you hard work when there’s no electricity to keep your vegetables fresh?
One answer to the problem of fresh food and refrigeration is easily answered with a DIY build of less than $2. Crazy Right? There are so many expensive energy alternatives for refrigeration like gasoline generators, solar fridge and many more for your Survival Food Storage. This easy solution involves literally 2 terracotta or clay pots some sand and water.
This great idea for the “desert refrigerator” is so simple. It utilizes the basic laws of thermodynamics. When water evaporates it cools, I told you it was basic. Now this only works in non humid areas so if you live in a humid area you will need another solution for your Survival Food Storage.

Here is how to build this desert refrigerator (no electricity refrigerator)
Get 2 large terracotta or clay pots (one small one large)
One needs to fit inside the other with a 1cm gap in between
They need to be unglazed and unfinished. This is VERY important since the cooling happens when the water evaporates and moves through the porous clay.
Now you will need to plug the holes on the bottom of both pots.
You can use just about anything for this and seal it with waterproof silicon sealant or whatever you think would do the trick.
Next line the bottom of the larger pot with sand.
Place the smaller pot inside the larger pot and fill around it with sand.
Place a damp towel over the top.

That’s it, now all you have to do it pour some water into the sandy part every day to keep it moist and you have a completely self-reliant Food Storage solution. This great Survival Food Storage is perfect for SHTF and you need to keep certain things cool. For any survival situation you need to weigh the pros and cons of keeping food that is perishable. In an ideal survival situation your entire freeze dried food and preserved food would do just fine but there’s nothing like fresh vegetables for your vitamins and minerals.
Survival Food Storage is a big problem when it comes to perishable foods but with this handy cheap way to store your fresh food there would be no reason to keep a health supply of fresh food around.
This comes in hand especially for people that are survival gardening. It is said that this is so good at food preservation that it keeps eggplant good for 27 days.
This Pot-in-Pot storage system as it is sometimes referred to keeps a core temperature much less than the outside temperature. If it is say 82 degrees out the core temperature would be around 59 degrees.
What I find most amusing about this great Food Storage system is that it is designed around the same technique that our bodies use to keep us cool, it just goes to show you don’t need to reinvent the wheel to come up with some pretty cool stuff. I hope this helps you guys with some great ideas for your Survival Food Storage!
